What started as a passion for playing and teaching tennis is becoming a nationwide platform for competition, business relationships, community connections, and opportunities that extend beyond the courts.
South Florida Tennis Pros was created by Cedric Burl to connect players and tennis professionals through instruction, organized play, tournaments, and tennis-centered experiences. The organization uses relationships made through tennis to introduce opportunities for entrepreneurship and collaborative business growth.
Cedric's professional work is in business consulting, capital strategy, and development. He is a former USPTA member (No. 64821), currently inactive, with tennis teaching history documented in 2014. He continues to offer tennis instruction recreationally when his travel schedule allows.
Today, SFTP is developing a broader platform that connects approved teaching professionals, ambassadors, tournament operators, sponsors, municipalities, businesses, and community organizations. The goal is not simply to add more coaches. It is to build a mission-aligned network where participants can work together and create measurable value.
Advocacy around access to public tennis courts, including the debate over tennis-court conversion at Crestwood Park in Birmingham, helped shape the National Tennis Community Association's community mission. The need reaches beyond tennis: many parks have aging or underused courts, playing fields, and recreation spaces.
That concern inspired a wider strategy: help communities discover accessible places to play, support suitable programs through the nonprofit, and offer cities and facility owners a separate route to professional assessment, funding strategy, and redevelopment coordination.
